The Strange Sights of Northern Illinios

In that odd time of year between Halloween and Thanksgiving, when everything is still woozily enhanced by the after trick-or-treat suger effect, we went for a drive through the northern Illinois one Saturday afternoon. Here is what we found.


The spirit of Honest Abe still thrives in these parts, where bluntness in advertising is prized.





There was a field of British phone booths, red and ripe, waiting to be harvested.








Long before there were settlers on the prairie, Big Foots made the area their home. When the pioneers arrived, one of the first things they did was desigate a final hallowed resting place for deceased Big Foots. This one was established in 1840, according to the sign.
